JAMB Suspends UTME Registration for 52 hours

JAMB Suspends UTME Registration for 52 hours

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has announced the suspension of the the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME)for 52 hours.

The announcement was made by the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

The suspension, Prof. Oloyede said, which takes effect from 8 p.m on Friday, was to create space for CBT centres to administer Mock UTME tests scheduled for Saturday, April 8.

The registration for UTME will resume on Monday, April 10, the registrar said.

Oloyede reassured the candidates that there was no need for worry or anxiety; adding that in the next one week, eligible and interested applicants will be successfully registered, as, already, 1,000,000 applicants have successful registered.

NO REGISTRATION SATURDAY 8TH APRIL 2017

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wishes to again assure Nigerians especially the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) candidates and their parents that all hands are on deck to ensure the smooth conduct of this year’s UTME exercise.

We want to reiterate that the interest of the candidates is foremost to the Board and there is no need for any apprehension regarding the purchase of forms and registration for the examinations. It is our commitment as a responsive and responsible body to ensure that no willing candidate is left out and if there is a need to extend the registration deadline, the needful will be done.

Meanwhile, Saturday April 8th , 2017 has been set aside for the Mock UTME. To seamlessly achieve this, the Board has SUSPENDED all activities relating to the registration exercise in ANY CBT centre from 8pm today being Friday 7thof April, 2017 and to resume on Monday 10THof April, 2017. This is to notify the candidates and the concerned stakeholders that there will be no sale of forms, registration and biometric capturing at the various centres in which the Mock Examinations are taking place.

This however does not preclude any candidate from going to Banks, NIPOST, interswitch or Remita to procure pins for registration on Monday. This is to prevent any disruption of the process and conduct of the mock examination.

The Mock Examinations for interested candidates taking place Saturday 8th April, 2017 is intended to familiarize our candidates with the CBT systems and generally forecast the challenges that may be faced ahead in order to proactively address them. It is just a rehearsal for us and candidates who want to experience the situation to expect during the actual examinations.

Therefore, the sale of forms, registration and biometrics at CBT Centres are to be suspended from 8:00 p.m. today till Monday, April 10, 2017. This notice is for the strict adherence of our officers and partners throughout the Federation.

While wishing the candidates and officials participating in the examination a successful mock exercise, we once again re-assure the candidates that there is no need for worry or anxiety. The next one week we believe is sufficient to capture the remaining candidates as about 1,000,000 applicants have successful registered.

However, as stated earlier, no one will be left behind as the deadline may be extended if there are applicants who do not succeed at registering due to circumstances beyond their control.

The Board sincerely regrets all inconveniences and state it resolved to work tirelessly to change the fortune of education in Nigerian.

JAMB Effectively Scraps Scratch Cards And Redesigns Website

Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB, has Effectively Scraped Scratch Cards, and Redesigned Website.

JAMB Effectively Scraps Scratch Cards And Redesigns Website

As we all know JAMB earlier promised to scrap the use of scratch cards? Well, we can now confirm that the board has now officially effected the scrapping of use of scratch cards, and has further redesigned it's portal to cater for the new changes.

The change is really here! All previous scratch cards have now been invalidated. So if you previously had any scratch card, USED or UNUSED, you can no longer use them on the new portal. Even if you would like to re-print your result slip or JAMB admission letter, you will need repay to do that. If you initially saved the document somewhere, good for you. All Ourschoolng fans, who requested this service through us however, are immune to this, as you can always log into your account here and re-print for free.

With the new system in place, candidates will now be required to have internet enabled ATM cards to be able to print their JAMB result slips, Admission letter or use any e-facility. Parents can also help their children make payments, BUT if you have more than one Child, you will need to choose which of them you would like to purchase a service for, as 1 account can only process services for 1 JAMB registration number. This simply means if you purchase JAMB result slip for JAMB registration number 12345678AB, you can purchase JAMB admission letter and other services for only 12345678AB. It is therefore advisable for candidates themselves to create a JAMB account using their emails and phone numbers, right from Registration (From 2017 UTME).

As for scratch card vendors, cafe operators, business centres, the new JAMB system has been designed to limit or totally prevent multiple requests from different JAMB registration numbers. You will therefore have to find alternatives or maybe register as an accredited JAMB centre. Whether or not this restriction will be lifted to allow candidates, who don't have bank account an option, only time will tell.

The portal seems to still be under construction, as we see some facilities are either not yet active or contain certain errors.

Some of the systems currently described above may change as the 2017 UTME registration draws closer, but until then, JAMB no longer uses scratch cards. Period!

Senate Suspends Move To Make JAMB Result Valid For 3 Years

The Senate has Suspends its Move To Make the Joint Adminstration and Matriculations, JAMB, Result Valid For 3 Years.

Senate Suspends Move To Make JAMB Result Valid For 3 Years

Report has emerged that the Senate has suspended the move to amend the Act establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

With this development, the extension of JAMB result validity has also been put on hold.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson of the board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

According to him, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Wamakko, represented by Senator Ajayi Boroffice, announced this during an oversight visit to its Headquarters.

It was learnt that the Senate has suspended the idea to allow for adequate consultation with experts and to ensure that the progress being made by JAMB in the conduct of examination is not impeded.

“Your JAMB result is only valid for one year and we thought it would be better for it to be valid for at least three years. That would reduce the burden on the parents, students and even the institution that is conducting the test. I think it is good for all of us and would not be rejected by the public.

“We don’t make laws for an individual or for the Senate. But we make laws for the country in the interest of all of us. A bill must not necessarily be at the convenience of a particular organization. Since we don’t want to make a law that would impede the progress of any institution, we are bound to listen to what the stakeholders are saying.” Wamakko stated

Reacting to this, the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, commended the Senate for listening to his appeal and called on the House of Representatives and the Executive to equally do the same by suspending the amendment of the JAMB Act.

JAMB proposes to stop setting cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics, others

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, says the board is working with the Federal Government to actualise the needed change in the education sector.

JAMB proposes to stop setting cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics, others

Mr. Oloyede, who made the assertion in a statement by the board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, said on Sunday in Lagos that such change would be possible with the ongoing reforms in the establishment.

“The Prof. Is-haq Oloyede-led management of JAMB has resolved to ensure that the change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari government concerning education is actualised in no distant time.

“This will be made possible through major reforms currently going on in the board.

“I want to insist that the board will continue to make reforms that will carry the interest of every Nigerian child irrespective of status or class,” the statement quoted the Registrar as saying.

It added that Mr. Oloyede expressed concern that most national policies over the time were geared toward accommodating the interest of the elite only and leaving the downtrodden to suffer unjustly.

“In view of the above, the board restates that one of such reforms it carried out recently was the cancellation of the use of scratch cards as part of its examination process.

“We shall continue to evolve and come up with innovations that will take us to the next level.

“We must continue to think and come up with new ways of doing things in the 21st century.

“This will ensure that our services are easily accessible as well as discourage fraudulent or sharp practices associated with some of the examination processes so as to conform to global best practices,” it said.

According to the statement, the registrar also disclosed that the board has critically looked at the process of regularising candidates and found a lot of lapses.

It said that the board could not tolerate the trend in its drive to effect positive change toward enhancing the fortune of tertiary education in Nigeria.

The statement said JAMB had designed a template to be completed on-line by candidates and endorsed by the Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts or Registrars of the candidates’ institutions of choice.

The templates, it said, would be submitted to the board’s offices nearer to the institution for the registrar’s approval subject to available evidence.

“The Registrar may deny approval if sufficient and convincing reasons are not given.’’

It urged the public to note that all admissions were done by the academic board of tertiary institutions which, hitherto, were submitted to the board to ensure that admissions met set requirements by proprietors of the institutions and government criteria.

According to the statement, there is no basis for regularisation.

It said that the board only designed the process to clear any backlog as it did not intend to continue with regularisation exercise again.

The statement said Mr. Oloyede called for a national debate on the propriety of cut off marks as institutions should be allowed to determine the kind of candidates they wanted.

It argued that the uniformity of cut of marks did not in any way make sense when Colleges and Polytechnics admit for NCE and Diplomas.

It said the universities on the other hand, admitted for degrees and yet all candidates were subjected to the same cut off marks.

It added that such stopped the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education from admitting candidates whom, if not engaged, might compromise their future.

The statement expressed worries over class opportunities as it affected the distribution of admission resources, noting that the rich had multiple opportunities, including going abroad for studies.

It said the poor only had the opportunity of struggling for the scarce access within the country.

The statement said children of the rich also participated in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and if they do not get the required cut-off marks, they proceeded abroad to further their studies.

It noted that on return at the end of their academic pursuits, their rich parents get them integrated.

It said their less privileged counterparts who could not afford such luxury stay behind still trying to get access that might never come.

“Let institutions admit what they want according to their needs. This means that if a university wants 250 as minimum cut off marks, why not let it be and if another want less, then so be it.

“If a polytechnic like Yaba College of Technology in Lagos wants 250 students, let it admit and if Gboko Polytechnic in Benue wants less than 200 let it be.

“Institutions should be known for their individual quality and not collective standard.

“This will foster positive competition for the overall good of our tertiary institutions,’’ the statement said.

The statement urged Nigerians to critically reflect on the development for the board to take action that would be for the good of the country’s education as well as the future of the Nigerian child.

JAMB Result Validity Extended to 3 years by the Senate

The Nigerian Senate have on Thursday, October 13, extended the validity period of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to three years against the present one year.

JAMB Result Validity Extended to 3 years by the Senate

The extension was sequel to the amendment of the Act establishing the JAMB and it scaled through third reading today. To this end, results obtained from the board by candidates seeking admission into universities are expected to last for three years. The Senate adopted the recommendation that the UTME examination should have a validity period of three years to reduce the financial burden on parents.

Read the statement below:

“The Nigerian Senate just passed the amendment to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Act #JAMBBill SB. 245 into law. In the amendment passed, the Senate strengthened the Board to allow the results of students in the annual examination be valid beyond that year. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, Senator Jibrin Barau while presenting the report of his committee on the #JAMBBill explained that the amendments will further strengthen the Admissions Board in its responsibilities. Senate President Bukola Saraki, in appreciating his distinguished colleagues for their work towards the passage of the bill commented that the new amendments will indeed bring financial relief to students as well as parents and reduce bottlenecks and corruption in the admission process.”
